Location
Located on the Mid North Coast in the Hastings River Port Macquarie, which has a long history of oyster harvesting, with cultivation beginning as early as the 1830’s. Hastings River oyster farmers grow the iconic Sydney Rock Oyster.
Leases
Humpty Back Oysters own and operates 3 leases within the Hastings River. The leases are as follows:
O/L58/012
has an area of 0.9816 ha and is a direct harvest lease. Currently carrying no stock. Located in Big Bay.
O/L69/412
has an area of 0.3854 ha and is a direct harvest lease with pontoons. Currently has 4 pontoons carrying 96 modules. Located in Limeburners creek.
O/L68/501
has an area of 0.3315 ha and is located along the edge of Hastings River Drive. It is home to the depot and to the shop premises known as ‘Big Oyster” which has been in existence since 1968. It is the only seafood business over the water on the Hastings River. It is a local icon for the supply of oysters and seafood. The business has wholesale and retail side to the business. The current owner operating the Big Oyster has just signed a 5X5 year lease. The current rental for the shed and pontoon dining area is $900 per week.
The depot area is at the northern end of the lease and has a crown land based licence to operate. It has direct access to Hastings River Drive. The depot area is approx. 1200 sq m.
